I love Manos Del Uruguay yarn despite the hefty price tag.The pure kettle-dyed wool is usually quite soft.So when I found the Stria online at a closeout price, I thought I would give it a shot -- I also love cotton since it is perfect for North Carolina.The appearance of the yarn is just as you would expect from Manos yarn -- it has beautiful slightly variegated colors throughout the skein due to the hand-dyed techniques.I think this adds interest to any knitted fabric.
The "Coral" color is more a rosey mauvey pink and very pretty -- a deeper richer color than shown in the picture here.It has good color saturation and the yarn itself appears to have a wrapper to make it appear a little more textured -- sort of like a softball cotton yarn.This makes the yarn very strong so great for a variety of projects from sweaters to blankets.
I was a little disappointed that the yarn wasn't as soft as I would have expected.I have bought quite a bit of cotton from South American yarn companies and they are often as soft as pima cotton.While not as "hard" as mercerized cotton (this is definitely not mercerized), it is not as soft as I would like.However, I'm hoping that as I wash it more, it will relax and soften up a bit.
All in all, this is a lovely yarn that will wear like nails.The yardage value is not great but this yarn can be had for much less with some digging on the internet.If you can get a good deal on this, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
